Your Engagement | The Happily Ever After Chronicles

So you're engaged?!
Congratulations!

Social norms and expectations can be a little daunting, especially if you are an anxious person like me, so I'm here to guide you through the whole process.

So how do you go about sharing your good news with the world? And more to that point, who do you tell first?

Usually the parents of the proposer will be in the know about the engagement prior to you finding out and if its been a tradition, opposite sex couple then the bride's father will have been asked for his permission. Saying that, you'll probably be wanting to contact your parents first, followed shortly by your soon to be in-laws.

Next up is your close relatives, your siblings and grandparents first - and it would probably be wise to contact them pronto because your mother will (hopefully) be super excited and may spill the beans before you!

Now, the most exciting part of my engagement was telling my best friend. We FaceTimed her so that we could see her reaction and it was priceless. Let them know that you'll need their help (and you will!) If you're not ready to spread the news to the masses on social networks etc, just explain that you'd like to keep it a secret for a while, they're sure to understand.

Once it's sunk in that you're actually getting married you may want to put something on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. Some couples actually book a engagement photography session, others get a cute shot of the ring with a witty Beyonce caption such as "he liked it so...".

Be prepared for the question: "have you set a date?"
Yes- this will be asked on the regular, along with people sharing personal stories of their own wedding. It's always a good excuse to break out the family photo albums. But most of all remember to enjoy it, you will (hopefully) only be a fiancé once and it is a very important step in your relationship with each other.

If you have any questions feel free to message me, I'd love to hear your proposal and engagement stories!

Lots of love Melissa x
